Std V girl forced to drink urine after she wets bed

In a shocking incident, the warden of a Vishwa Bharati University hostel forced a Class V student to drink her own urine Saturday morning as punishment for wetting her bed.

The university has formed a four member fact-finding committee to look into the matter. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, too, has sought a report from the VB authorities in this regard.

The 11-year-old girl, has been studying at Patha Bhavan, a residential co-education primary and secondary school, since Class II. On Saturday night, after she wetted her bed, she was reportedly asked to drink her own urine by the warden.

Students at the hostel said the traumatised girl lost consciousness after the incident and they informed her parents, who immediately rushed to the hostel.

The girl's parents lodged a complaint at the Bolpur police station and also complained to the VB authorities.

Following the incident, parents of other students are also learnt to have rushed to the hostel and demand immediate action against the warden. They claimed that the warden had been misbehaving with their wards as well.

Manoj Mistri, the girl's father, said if such "inhuman practices" continued in the school, he will not let his ward stay in the hostel.

Spokesperson, Vishwa Bharati university, Amrit Sen said a committee, comprising former dean of students Prof Aruna Mukherjee, deputy dean Hareskrishna Mishra and teachers Ipsha Bandhopadhyay of Siksha Satra and Surajit Sen of Patha Bhavan, has been constituted to investigate the matter.
