Stephen’s School, DAV Club-8 in final

  • Hot favourites St Stephen's School, Sector 45 and DAV Club Sector 8 qualified for the final in the Chandigarh Women Football Championship for Deepak Kampania Trophy being played at the Sector 17 Football Stadium on Thursday. They will cross swords on Friday at 10.30 am for the crown.

    St Stephen's School topped their pool A with three points while DAV Club, Sector 8 emerged Pool B winners with four points. Sacred Heart completed their league programme as runners-up in Pool B with three points while Government Club, Sector 42 finished at the bottom with one point.

    In the last league match in Pool B on Thursday, Sacred Heart School, Sector 26 upset the calculations of Government Club, Sector 42 by recording a stunning 2-1 verdict. Government Club, Sector 42, who had snatched one point from DAV Club, Sector 8 by playing a draw, drew the first blood in the 25th minute through Sang Khumi.

    Sacred Heart School reorganised their game and started asserting themselves. Their moves bore fruits in the 33rd minute through Arshot. They teams were evenly matched. However, Sahiba scored the match-winner for Sacred Heart in the 65th minute and shattered the hopes of Government Club-42 to aspire for the berth in the final.
