Stephens teachers up ante against Bishop

Weve started contacting Stephanian alumni and will be sending out a five-page note on the controversy to them. We will also be representing ourselves before the Church of North India,because these incidents are bound to look bad on the Church,which has been benign to the college throughout its history, said college Dean Nandita Narain. She was joined at a press conference by Stephens Associate Dean K M Mathew,Academic Affairs Dean Vijay Tankha and his associate Sanjay Kumar and former associate bursar Sanjay Grewal,among others.

Delhi University on its part,stuck to Principal Valson Thampus side. University nominee in the Stephens Governing Body,Bhairabi Prasad Sahu,despite being absent at the press conference,sent a letter that was distributed among mediapersons.

A few members of the GB seem,in desperation,to have gone ahead and satisfied themselves in having found a resolution appointing an interim bursar when the principal was out of town, he said in the letter. It needs to be emphasised that this is unlawful. The bursar,interim or full-time,has to have the principals recommendation, he added.

Teachers also questioned the procedures involved in the appointing of the three-member committee to identify a retired judge to conduct an inquiry into college affairs. They said that the inquiry was biased,since all three members were the Bishops nominees.
