A delegation led by eminent jurist Fali S Nariman and Supreme Court Bar Association president Krishnamani on Wednesday met Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan to appeal against the elevation of Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P D Dinakaran to the apex court.
The delegation drew the attention of the CJI to a November 28 resolution passed by the Bar Association of India, giving its thumbs down to the elevation of Justice Dinakaran. They also requested the SC Collegium to desist from going ahead in order to save the credibility of the judiciary.
The resolution said that appointment of such a person whose integrity was widely perceived to be doubtful would affect the faith of the common man in the judicial institution. The BAI most fervently and seriously appeals to the Collegium of the Supreme Court not to proceed further with his recommendation for the appointment to the apex court, the resolution said.
