Stuck in resin chamber,worker dies,another rescued

A worker died in a chemical factory while another was seriously injured after they were stuck in a mixing chamber partially filled with sticky resin on Thursday evening. The fire brigade,hindered in the rescue effort by the small opening of the 15-foot-deep chamber,cut through the stainless steel body. The two were taken out at midnight.
The owner of the factory has been booked by the Rajgad police. The mishap took place on the premises of ROC Chemicals Private Ltd at Kelawadi near Nasarapur,35 km from Pune. Police,after conducting a preliminary investigation,said that the deceased,Vishal Kamble (21),was adding an adhesive to the chamber when the can he was holding fell in. He reportedly entered the chamber through the small opening to take the can out but was stuck to the strong adhesive. Another worker Sandeep Khude (22) went to rescue him and also got stuck.
Prashant Ranpise,chief fire officer with Pune Fire Brigade,said,The chemical was releasing very toxic fumes with an intolerable stench. The two must have immediately fell unconscious. We got a call at 4:40 pm and our rescue van reached the spot in less than an hour. First we tried to insert a breathing apparatus but could not do that as the manhole was too small. Besides the two were unconscious. We then decided to cut the mixing chamber from bottom and take the two out. We first used a gas cutter. The chamber wall was thick and strong and the chemical inside started heating up. We then used a circular saw and made a hole to take the two out.
Sanjay Bothe,inspector,Rajgad police station,said that Kamble had stopped breathing while Khude was alive when taken out.
Both were rushed to hospital. Kamble was declared brought dead while Khudes condition is now improving, said Bothe. Kambles body was handed over to relatives for last rites. Bothe said a case will be registered against factory owner Sandeep Pandit of Shaniwar Peth.
Pandit has been detained and will be placed under arrest after a complaint is filed. He will be charged with causing death by negligence. Bothe said.
One of the workers at the spot said,It is difficult to know whether Kamble fell into the chamber or went in himself. Ranpise added,When Kambles body was taken out,we found a handkerchief covering his nose. He may have gone prepared but somehow lost balance and got stuck in the adhesive.
