A road safety workshop was organised at the SD College by Spirit India,a students volunteer group of the college,in collaboration with the Chandigarh Traffic Police on Thursday. SP (Traffic) H S Doon was the chief guest on the occasion. Addressing the students on the occasion,Doon highlighted the need for organising such workshops and encouraged students to come up with innovative schemes to spread public awareness on road safety. He also praised the students of the college for their concern regarding traffic rules and road safety and emphasised the need to be safe while on the road and become better and more responsible citizens. The workshop commenced with a talk on road safety by Desraj,in which he enunciated various road safety tips and elaborated the meaning of different road signs. Besides stressing on the need to wear helmets,he also highlighted the need to have an authentic driving licence and a proper number plate on the vehicles. The staff of the Chandigarh Traffic Police also put up an exhibition to spread awareness regarding the various measures they can incorporate to ensure safety on roads. The volunteers of Spirit India highlighted various facts and figures related to deaths and injuries in road accidents on city roads. The students also presented a skit showcasing the consequences of not obeying traffic norms. Various contests on the theme of road safety were also held including a road safety quiz conducted by Poonam Dilavari,head of Childrens Traffic Park. Students also offered their suggestions for the smooth movement of traffic on the roads of City Beautiful. The volunteers of Spirit India were also honoured by the college on the occasion. They were awarded certificates of merit for their commitment and services to the group.
