Students are losers as results displayed online not updated, board denies charges

Even as the state education department has introduced online admission system for all technical courses from this year, the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has not been very prompt in online updating of the revised marks of the students secured in secondary exams.

In some cases, the revised marks of the students were updated two years later and that too after several representations.

“In revised marking,my daughter received 14 marks more in her Class X board exam in 2007. However, that change was effected online by the board on 22 June this year. She wanted to apply for a diploma in polytechnic but she could not do so as the online result displayed her old marks which were less and the form for that course had to be filled online only,” said a parent.

While results are declared online, revised marks were not updated in case of the students who had applied for a rechecking.

As a result,a number of students whose marks were revised could not seek admission on the basis of their revised marks in courses that required online filling of forms. The forms for most of the technical diploma courses have to be filled online.

The Ahmedabad City Secondary and Higher Secondary School Administrative Staff Federation took up the issue this year with the Board to bring to light the troubles faced by the students and the opportunities lost by them.

Mahendra Patel, the president of the Federation and member of the executive council of the board, said,“The issue was raised by our federation and submitted in writing in the GSHSEB’s executive council meeting a fortnight back.”

Yogesh Mishra, the secretary of the Federation, said,“There have been cases in which the revised results of the students were not updated for two years.”

Mishra said,“We had raised the issue and submitted it in writing in the GSHSEB’s executive council meeting. Following this, the marks have now been updated for all the cases we represented.”

The GSHSEB officer

on special duty,YM

Vyas, said no such case has been represented so far. “There have been no cases of revised marks not being updated and I have not received a single representation in the matter.”
