A small group of students under the banner of ultra Left students group United Students Democration Front (USDF) on Sunday held a sit-in protest outside the residence of Industries and Commerce Minister Partha Chatterjee demanding the state government to do away with the status quo at Singur. The members of the group claimed that they had visited Singur and had spoken to the farmers who not only lost their land but also have not received compensation. It was earlier declared by this government that the pact between the Tata Motors and the previous Left Front government over Singur acquisition will be made public. But so far nothing has been done in this regard. We want to ask why, said Debjani Ghosh,a representative of USDF. The land at Singur is in possession of the state government. We are waiting for the court order as soon as it comes we will distribute land to villagers, the government had earlier said. The students also distributed CDs containing the villagers interviews. They said that they will try to meet intellectuals who has earlier opposed the land acquisition in Singur and try to involve them in their movement.
