In a surprising incident, about 22 students were forcibly taken to a political rally from the gates of their school in Behala on Thursday, leading to angry parents ransacking the office and assaulting teachers. The students of Mathuranath Vidyapith at Sahapara in Behala were picked up by SUCI supporters.
When parents and guardians reached the school and could not find their children, they sought information from the authorities about their whereabouts.
When they came to know from other sources that their wards were taken to a political rally without their consent, they allegedly ransacked the school office and assaulted some teachers.
Guardians asked how can teachers not be aware of children being forced to go to a political rally from the school gates. Most of the students were from classes VII to IX. The police had to intervene to bring the situation under control.
The SUCI leadership admitted that they had brought children for the rally organised by the All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO),the student wing of the party,on various issues relating to education.
Traffic was thrown out of gear because of the rally that had hundreds of school students. From 3.30 pm to 4 pm,no vehicle could not move at Dorina Crossing because of the huge procession.
Traffic around the central business district in Dalhousie and Red Road came to halt for over 40 minutes.
