  • The trial of the 21 suspected Indian Mujahideen members will be a learning experience for some students who have been included as prosecution witnesses. These students will depose in the court on the Wi-Fi accounts being hacked by the accused to send e-mails claiming responsibility for the blasts across the country.

The Mumbai Police crime branch has recorded the statements of research students and the dean of Khalsa College to prove their claims that the college Wi-Fi accounts were hacked by the accused. The youngsters, aged 21 to 25 years, will be deposing in the court on the setup of their computer lab, how the Wi-Fi network works and how they used to operate it.

The statements of these students, whose identities have been protected, appear in the chargesheet filed by the crime branch before the special MCOCA court. The statements of three students have been recorded besides those of the college computer lab staff. These students had used the computer lab on August 23, 2008, the day when the perpetrators hacked the account and sent a seven-page e-mail to media houses, claiming responsibility for the Ahmedabad and Delhi blasts.

Khalsa College principal Ajit Singh told Newsline, “I am an Indian citizen and so are the students and other staff of the college. We will surely depose in court in a bid to help the police nail the perpetrators of such serious crimes.”

The crime branch is likely to examine over 150 witnesses to prove their case. The police have also recorded the statements of a pan shop owner, a doctor and a farmer.
