  • Hardening its stand over the appointment of Kothandaraman as the Meghalaya Assembly principal secretary, the Khasi Students Union (KSU) and Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People's (FKJGP) have issued a 10-day deadline to Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope to revoke the appointment or face an agitation.

The two organisations had a meeting on Monday evening to discuss the appointment of the Assembly principal secretary by the Speaker.

They also spoke about the institution of an inquiry committee by Chief Minister D D Lapang to look into the Shillong jailbreak incident, carried out in May by seven prisoners that led to the killing of its mastermind Fullmoon Dhar by the police.

The KSU president Samuel Jyrwa said NGOs under the banner of Steering Committee Against Murder of Democracy (SCAMD) were demanding the removal of the DGP for his inability to conduct a fair probe into the jailbreak incident.
