A move by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) to let SSC and HSC students know the final examination schedule in June,at the start of the academic year itself, has been welcomed in general in the city. The move is aimed at helping students and teachers to plan for the exam better. The state board generally declares the timetable of SSC and HSC examinations in November or December. Board officials thought if students could get a tentative schedule at the start of the academic year, they can prepare better, Sarjerao Jadhav, acting chairman of MSBSHSE said on Monday. It may be started from the 2011-12 academic year. Not only students but parents, too, will benefit,as they can plan leave and holidays in advance, he said. We can definitely prepare at least a tentative schedule by June. It will be subject to minor changes as per government holidays during the examination, he added. The move will help teachers,as they can plan their teaching schedule in advance. They will get a clearer idea of how much time they have to complete the syllabus, said Jadhav. Leena Chaudhary, principal of Symbiosis School, said teachers and students would definitely benefit. At our school,we generally complete SSC syllabus by December end and after preliminary examination in January, teachers emphasise on revision. If the time table of exams is already known in June,we can plan this revision part better, she said. Jadhav said besides, the schedule would be flexible. We have planned enough gaps between two papers. Examination of subjects such as mathematics would be spaced in the middle of the schedule to help students prepare better, he said.
