A study on VIP security has been carried out and the report will be declared “at the right time”, Home Minister Jayant Patil said here on Friday. "We have reviewed the VIP security in the state and know who requires security and who does not.

The report will be declared at an appropriate time," Patil said. He was in the city for the inauguration ceremony of the administrative building of the State Criminal Investigation Department at Pashan Road and 442 new police quarters at SRPF Group I, Ramtekdi. "I saw the security arrangements in foreign countries during my tours. We will soon take a decision on VIP security in Maharashtra. A huge convoy of cars and police force is asked to secure a single man. There are many who are taking such security without any reason, causing manpower problems for the police," Patil said. Earlier, State Water Resources Minister Ajit Pawar inaugurated the new CID building.

Pawar urged the police to create a people-friendly environment at police stations. "Some police personnel are working in a nexus with politicians and purchasing land, which has given rise to a land mafia. Police should concentrate on solving problems faced by the public," Pawar said.

Meanwhile, Patil asked Pawar to make available 10 acres around Pune for setting up an advanced training unit for the dog squad. Patil praised the state CID and directed the authorities to get adequate furniture and equipment installed in the new premises soon. However, State Director General of Police S S Virk had a different take.
