Succour for men victims of domestic violence act

Swatantra Awaz Welfare Organization,a non-government organization,is a helping hand to more than 100 men,who are alleged victims of false cases registered under domestic violence act and Section 498-A of IPC. While majority of these case are from Punjab,some are also from Himachal Pardesh,Haryana and Utterakhand etc.

Disclosing this,Amandeep Singh,president of SAW,said,“We are providing legal counselling,psychological support,judicial and emotional help to the victims besides providing them help under Right to Information Act. About 600 men from different states contacted us during the last two months and made us aware about the harassment they were facing because of the false cases registered of Section 498-A. Presently,we are aiding more than 100 men with the help of our Ludhiana-based lawyer,Gurjeet Singh and Chandigarh-based lawyers,Gurwarandeep Singh Sandhu and Narinder Pal Singh Maan. While a city-based psychiatrist,Gurinderpal Singh Sachdeva is helping them as to how to come out of the mental trauma.”

While introducing Ajit Singh,a resident of J block of Ludhiana,Amandeep Singh said,“He has contacted us only two days ago and has a heart-rending tale to tell.”

Ajit Singh,an ex-soldier,alleged,“Only two days ago,I got an FIR registered at Sarabha Nagar police station against my wife,who has recently thrown me out of house after beating me up badly along with his relatives. As I have no place to stay,I stay at gurudwaras. I have only Rs 4,000 monthly pension with me. But I am thankful to the colony residents,who saved my life on that day. Some religious leaders tried to resolve the whole issue amicably but my wife did not allow me to enter the house.”

About him,Beant Juneja,SHO,Sarabha Nagar police station,said,“Yes we have registered an FIR on his complaint and will conduct an investigation.”

GS Channi,an investigator working for the NGO,said,“We will write letters to the President of India,the Home Minister,the Law Minister and the police officials besides Human Rights Commission and will also request intellectuals to come forward to save the life and dignity of such individuals.

While Tejinder Kaur,president of women’s cell of this NGO,said,“Anyone,who is facing any problem can contact us on our helpline numbers 93169-29321 and 94171-36777.”
