SUCI bandh today amid tight security

The state government and the police claim to have made elaborate arrangements to make sure normalcy prevails during the 12-hour bandh called by the SUCI tomorrow.

The state government and the police claim to have made elaborate arrangements to make sure normalcy prevails during the 12-hour bandh called by the SUCI tomorrow.

State Transport Minister Ranjit Kundu said all buses will be on the roads tomorrow. “All buses,including the new ones,will ply normally. The government will make all arrangements to maintain normalcy,” he said. Police Commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakrabarti said: “There is no question of taking anything lightly. A large contingent of policemen will be on the streets to prevent any untoward incident.”

Over 2000 police personnel will hit the streets tomorrow and there will be 128 police pickets throughout the city. Sixty-one patrol vans will be pressed into service,along with 61 Radio Flying squad and 25 Headquarter Radio Flying squads,who will be partolling various parts of the city.

All deputy commissioners will be on duty in different areas. Special police arrangements have been made at ferry ghats,bus depots,metro stations,markets and office areas.

The people are,meanwhile,bracing up for two bandhs in quick succession as the BJP has also called a bandh against price rise on November 30.
