Sukna scam: Summary of evidence on against Prakash

Army is holding the Summary of Evidence against the former Military Secretary in the Sukna land scam.

The Army is holding the Summary of Evidence (SoE) against former Military Secretary Lt Gen Avadesh Prakash in the Sukna land scam at the Eastern Command Headquarters in Kolkata.

The SoE started on July 19 and a number of witnesses including former Lt Gen P K Rath,who was also indicted in the case,have recorded their statements,Army sources said.

Some of the witnesses are yet to record their statements and after the process is over,the Army will look into the findings of the SoE and then decide the future course of action,they added.

If the SoE finds basis for continuing disciplinary action against Prakash,he will then face a court martial,sources said.

Disciplinary action was recommended by a Court of Inquiry headed by a three-star officer after Prakash was indicted for his role in issuing no-objection certificates to private realtors for building educational institutions on a 70-acre piece of land adjacent to the Sukna military station in West Bengal.

11 Corps Commander Lt Gen Ramesh Halgali and Maj Gen P K Sen were also indicted in the case along with Rath and Prakash.

While Rath and Prakash are facing disciplinary action for their roles,Halgali and Sen faced administrative action.
