Even though Manjinder Singh finished on the losing side, he held his head high. Managing to trouble an ace cueist like Sumit Talwar, the top snooker player from Chandigarh, was nothing less than a feat. And he troubled Sumit a lot on the second day of the 28th Chandigarh (UT) billiards and snooker championship held at Chandigarh Billiards Coaching Centre in Sector 22 on Wednesday.

At one point in the match, Sumit was even looking at the ignominy of suffering defeat. However, nothing like that happended as Sumit staved off a brave challenge from Manjinder and defeated him in a tough encounter. Manjinder started off well and was in blazing form as he claimed the first frame 64-34. Looking confident, Manjinder looked to seal the second frame but Sumit started to open up and displayed his superb potting skills

to walk away with the second frame. Going into the final frame, both the players upped their tempo. However, it was experience which had the final say in the outcome of the match as Sumit potted the pink ball and claimed the frame to win the match.

However, there were few disappointments on the second day as seasoned cueist Arif Akhtar lost to Deepak Chaudhary. Looking off colour, Arif failed to pot the balls and lost the first frame 34-64. On the other hand, Deepak, his opponent, gained in confidence and won the second frame, 58-24, to register a 2-0 victory over the seasoned cueist.

Meanwhile, Rishab Gupta defeated third seed Amit Verma, 2-0, in a hard-fought encounter. Rishabh capitalised on the momentum he got in the intial period of the first frame and claimed the frame 63-51. Bolstered with the win, Rishab pressed hard and also managed to win the second frame, 61-50, to saunter ahead in the tournament.
