Summer ailments on rise,sale of cut fruits goes unchecked

With temperature inching towards north,there is a surge in the number of ailments being reported in the city. From heat stroke to bacterial diseases such as gastroenteritis and skin problems,the problems are aplenty for the residents. Couple with this,the sale of cut fruits goes on unabated in the city,which only adds to the woes of the Health department.

Visit any public place,one comes across ice-cream vendors,cut-fruit sellers and chatwallas.

Dr D S Kochhar,District Health Officer,Ludhiana,said,“ On Monday,Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari held a meeting with the officers of different departments and issued instructions accordingly. We will initiate action against such people.” The city hospitals,too,are full of patients complaining of high fever and body aches,diarrhoea and gastroenteritis. Dr Kamal Masih,Medical Superintendent of Christian Medical College and Hospital,said,“Outdoor activities should be avoided. If one has to go out,one should avoid direct heat by covering one self. One should also avoid eating cut fruits,chat,ice-creams etc as there are chances of bacterial attack on the digestive tract. In case one has to eat out,eat deep-fried foods such as samosa,tikki,poori etc as there remains very less chances of harmful bacteria.”

He further said that to avoid dehydration,one should take adequate fluids.

Precautions

* Drink clean and chlorinated water

* Maintain personal hygiene

* Wash hands before and after meals

* Keep yourself hydrated but do not consume cut fruits and vegetables from roadside vendors

* If fever,dysentery and vomiting persists,consult doctor
