Going beyond the predictable,this summer you can look to create,imagine,play,cook,dance,act and simply let your creative juices flow uninterrupted. Designed for specific age groups,interests,budgets,time schedules,summer workshops combine work and play to provide a wholesome experience and total leisure. Take your pick!

HEALTH IN YOUR HAND: This one’s for moms who just can’t get their children to junk junk! Arney’s Backyard,an after-school activity club offers a nutrition and physical activity summer program for children aged between three and ten. Indoor and outdoor activities will promote preventive nutritional health care in children by teaching them the importance of food pyramid through food-based art and craft,outdoor fun food games and a cookery special. “At Arney’s we help young ones in achieving wellness,by telling them that their health is their responsibility,’’ Aditi,a nutritionist and brainchild of the club believes that many children are put off from sport if pushed into structured sport at an early age. “We will have innovative games to get them moving,’’ the club’s on at Strawberry Fields School from June 1 to 11. For a fit body and mind you can also head to yoga classes,which have been carefully put together for children from 10 to 14 years. Renowned yoga teacher Meenakshi will take classes from May 18 to 29 at Coveda School.

ART ATTACK: This one comes with a prior warning. No couch potatoes are allowed on this trip which combines camping and art. The Environment and Art Camp in Jhanjheli Valley near Sundernagar,HP,has a unique line-up. Open to children between 12 and 15,they plan to take treks,follow streams,observe trees and forests,pitch tents,do camp fires,camp cooking and create art. The intention is to get inspiration from the environment and learn from human-environment relationships as they unfold in the Himachali landscape. So,observe sounds,colours,geometries,textures of nature and learn about creative and eco-friendly ways of engaging with the environment. Observations will be done by writing,sketching,water colours and digital cameras. You will collect natural materials and creatively put together,drawings,illustrations,prints,maps,videos,installations and then display it all at an exhibition! FUN ALL THE WAY: At the Go Bananas Kids Club,there’s an absorbing mix of activities like theatre,freestyle dance,art works,social awareness projects,film-making workshop,picnic,field visit and a stage performance. The Coveda summer workshops have story writing and theatre,research and puppet presentation,math through cooperative games,games,art and craft all from May 18 onwards and for various age groups. At the British School Panchkula,many stimulating programmes in arts and crafts,music and dance are at hand. Some of the highlights here include puppet theatre,chess,memory power,quizzing,creative writing,reading and story-telling! At Kids’ Own in Sector 17,the focus is on off-beat action which involve mental,physical and creative faculties and lots of fun. And then of course,Shaimak’s summer funk is back on the dance floor and it’s time to shake a leg…
