Summer workshops for students are passé now. Schools have come up with a new idea of summer activities for teachers to help them spend their vacations in a constructive manner. From Art of Living courses to language workshops, schools seems to be working on the mantra of ‘Learn with fun’ for teachers too.
DAV Model School in Sector 15 plans to hold an Art of Living workshop for its teachers during the summer vacations. The main objective will be to help them deal with stress along with the benefits of Yoga and meditation.
“The course will surely help teachers look at life with a positive outlook. Apart from de-stressing them, it will assist in maintaining a healthy mind and body,” said Dr Rakesh Sachdeva, principal of the school.
The duration of such activities too has been kept short so that teachers are able to execute their personal plans during the vacations. KB DAV School in Sector 7 too is holding Yoga classes for its teachers.
Carmel Convent School is not far behind and organised a workshop on menopause for its teachers during the summer break. According to Punita Singh, counsellor at the school, “Keeping in mind the tremendous response the seminar received, we will plan more workshops on similar lines. Since teachers are not much overworked during this time, they too are able to take out time to learn new skills.”
The school also plans to hold counselling sessions for parents and teachers to help them deal with the vagaries of bringing up a child.
