Summons to 53 officials after Cidco ex-staffer cries fraud

A magistrate in Navi Mumbai has issued summons to 53 former and current employees of the City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) after a former Cidco employee alleged that public money had been misused in several projects, and appointments made in violation of rules.

Among the officials summoned are Cidco's former managing director G S Gill, joint managing director Deepak Kapoor, and current managing director Tanaji Satre.

Satre confirmed to The Indian Express that he had received the court notice. "There have been court summons regarding some case of recruitment of 23 executive engineers in Cidco a few years back," he said.

Complainant Nandakumar Salla has alleged irregularities in the construction of a coastal road at Dronagiri in Navi Mumbai, and said that a road from Sanpada to Vashi railway station would damage mangroves.

He has questioned the recruitment of executive engineers in 2004, saying Cidco made 23 appointments against 14 advertised posts.

Salla has accused Cidco officials of fraud, criminal breach of trust and misuse of authority. He approached the magistrate after the police did not take cognizance of his complaint.

The process order was issued on January 4. According to a senior Cidco official, the hearing is in April.
