Its that time of the year again when schools sport huge locks on their hallowed portals and parents frantically look for activities to engage their little ones before they raise mayhem in the house.

While the age old summer camps of going on treks and picnics are popular amongst the young junta,here are some unique ways to enjoy the maddening heat:

Boot Camp
Soccer

With just the right kind of training children could be the next Ronaldo or Pele in the making. And what better way then to have the Brazilians show us the way. The Brazilian Soccer School (BSS),a month-long summer camp that aims at providing aspiring footballers with fun-filled options of learning the tricks of the game.

This one-month summer camp will feature a tournament set up during its course,wherein the children will be provided with a training kit of the BSS World Cup. They will be taught Brazilian football skills along with ball control,and techniques of offense and defense.

“This camp will be held at various locations such as Wanowrie,Aundh,Viman Nagar and Law College Road. Children will not only learn football skills but also take up fitness regime seriously as a team,” says Kalyani Vaidya,project manager,BSS India. “This will help build team building attitude in them,giving them opportunity to learn life skills through a sport,” she adds.

Age group: 6 to16 years

Dates: April 18 – May 16

Here is something interesting. The Wonder Kids Workshop for children by Marion Mathews will focus on jewellery making. “We will use materials like colourful beads and strings to make simple chains and bracelets,” says Mathews,adding,“While little girls can now accessorise according to their clothes,the boys could gift pretty bracelets to their moms.” This workshop will be held at Lexicon School and BT Kawade road.

Age group: 4 to12 years

Dates: April 14 onwards at B T Kawade Road and April 18 onwards at Lexicon School,Viman Nagar

Robotics

And the whiz kids need not lose out,in anticipation of the schools to re-open. A robot-designing workshop by Technophilia could be the answer. The workshop will help children learn basics of robotics,the mechanism behind the robots and help make their own automated robots like Mobile Phone Controlled,Staircase Climber,Obstacle Avoider,Fire Fighter,Boomerang Robots and others. This workshop will help kids develop lateral thinking and also make them aware of the developments in the field of science and technology. Learn to bring your fantasy to reality by building cool robots with the help of sound,light and sensors. Technophilia has introduced three courses based on the difficulty level; they are RoboMech,RoboTech and RoboCub. Experienced professionals from NIT and IITs will be present to teach children,using both-theory and practical hands on experience.

Fly me high(Paramotoring and Trike)
Ever wondered how would it feel like to fly like a bird? Wings and Flights Paragliding Institute at Hadapsar has introduced two new vehicles to make this dream come true. Paramotoring is powered paragliding i.e. with the help of a motor. Through Paramotoring they have introduced new activities like cross country flying and group paragliding. They are also launching the Trike,a three wheeled flying vehicle that has an engine with a propeller and uses wheels as an undercarriage. It accommodates two people at the same time.

Magic tricks

“School of Magic” is organising weekend classes on magic tricks. The workshop will include three types of magic tricks i.e. Close-up,Street magic and stage magic. A set of 24 tricks will be taught including playing cards tricks,ghost writing,obedient ball and magical escape. So if you are an ardent worshiper of Harry Houdini,or the very famous David Blaine then the ‘School of Magic’ is the final destination to head to.

Age group – 7 years onwards
