Sunraj leads NPS-18 to final

  • With four top teams in the last four, the semi-final matches were expected to be high scoring affairs. And the teams did not disappoint. Firstly, St Xavier's School, Chandigarh, got the better of St Xavier's School, Panchkula, 33-23, while in another match, New Public School, Sector 18, snubbed the challenge of Shishu Niketan, Sector 22, by a margin of 63-57 in a close encounter during the 6th Emily Gosain Memorial Under-17 Inter-School Basketball Tournament played at the St Xavier's School courts in Sector 21 on Friday.

    The scoring spree was spearheaded by Sunraj for New Public School, Sector 18, who top scored with 19 points. Gurmeet and Gurluvleen chipped in with an identical 15 points. Meanwhile, Ashok and Dinesh contributed 19 and 12 points, respectively, for Shishu Niketan.

    In another semi-final match, St Xavier's School-44 prevailed over St Xavier's, Panchkula, by a margin of 33-23. Gurjot came up with a thrilling performance as he showed his scoring talents by contributing 12 vital points for the team. Sarfraj was the principal scorer for the hosts Xavier's with 14 points.

    Spearheaded by Gul Walia, Holy Child School of Panchkula defeated Saupin's School by 22-4 in a classification match to decide third and fourth places. Gul top scored with 14 points.

    Holy Child (Gul Walia 14) bt Saupin's (Shreya 4) by 22 - 4.

    Boys (semi-finals):New Public School-18 ( Sunraj 19, Gurmeet 15, Gurluvleen 15) bt Shishu Niketan (Ashok 19, Dinesh 12 ) by 63 - 57.
