Super AC coaches still a distant dream as rlys grapples technical issues

Some two years since then Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee made the announcement, work is yet to begin on the Super AC coaches as a Railways design body is yet to clear certain issues relating to technical specifications of the coaches.

While the Railway Ministry had earlier directed the Rail Coach factory (RCF) in Kapurthala to manufacture the 25 new Super AC coaches, the project has now been shifted to the RCF at Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh - the Lok Sabha constituency of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. The Project was announced in October 2010 and the Railways had fixed October 2011 as the deadline for rolling out the Super AC coaches.

Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) RCF, Rae Bareli, Anil Handa, who sits in Delhi, when contacted said work on the Super AC coach was yet to begin because the Railway Board and the

Railway Board and Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) were yet to sort out technical specifications of the Super AC coaches. Sources in the engineering section at the RCF in Rae Bareli said there were some limitations relating to procurement of the materials to be used in such coaches.
