Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari today said the worlds superpowers will have to soon make serious decisions about the Kashmir problem, claiming that regional peace is closely linked to the resolution of the decades-old issue with India.
The time will soon come when all the worlds superpowers (and countries) in this region will have to sit and talk about Kashmir and make serious decisions. I believe the victory will be that of the Kashmiris, he said addressing a joint session of the Assembly and Council of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Zardari also sought to link the resolution of the Kashmir issue to the world communitys focus on Pakistan in the war on terror.
If the worlds attention is on Pakistan and its problems, the world will also have to talk to us about the Kashmir issue. Only then can peace be ushered into this region. Regional peace cannot be separated from peace in Kashmir. We have highlighted this to the world and will continue to do so, he said Pakistan is waging a war of ideas and concepts for the Kashmir issue and it is obligatory for all Pakistanis to join this campaign,he said.
The movement will continue for generations to attain the rights of Kashmiris, Zardari said.
Leaders of PPP,ranging from the partys founder Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto to Premier Yousuf Raza Gilani, have talked to India about dialogue on equal terms…with the Kashmiris rights and not without the Kashmiris rights, Zardari said.
He claimed that developed and democratic India has its own weakness including the belief that Kashmiris can be suppressed by force.
Their (Indian) leaders used to think that may be Kashmiris are weak but they have seen that when people stand united, they can make sacrifices… Kashmir will become part of Pakistan, he said as members of the two assemblies thumped their desks.
Pakistan has no objections to the friendship between India and the US and we know we cannot change our neighbours, Zardari said.
But they (India) too should know that they also cannot change their neighbours….We happen to be 180 million Pakistanis who have the heart of lions with Kashmir leading us. Zardari also announced several development projects for PoK,including the setting up of a dry port and medical and engineering colleges.
The beleaguered President, whose popularity is at an all-time low since the Supreme Court scrapped a graft amnesty that benefitted him,has been touring southern Sindh province and PoK in his first domestic visit in several months.
Over the past few days,he has made several hard-hitting speeches in which he targeted his detractors and made it clear that he does not intend to give up without a fight.
