City-based bootlegger Harishankar Kahar and his three other accomplices, who were arrested for allegedly supplying spurious hooch in the city, have been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder (Section 304 of IPC). If proved guilty before the court where trial in the case will be conducted, legal experts say the quartet may be sentenced to imprisonment for life. Apart from Section 304 of the IPC,investigating agency in the case, the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) has also booked the four for administrating stupefying substance intentionally (Section 328 of IPC). The maximum term under this section, added experts, can extend to 10 years. Odhav-based Kahar was arrested by the DCB late on Wednesday. He was produced before a local court on Thursday night and was remanded to police custody for 14 days. Kahars three alleged accomplices,Odhav residents Himmatsinh Parmar,Vipul Luhar and Uttam Luhar were arrested on Friday, reportedly after Kahar named them during his interrogation. Till now,the DCB investigation has revealed that Mehmedabad-based bootlegger Vinod Chauhan aka Dargi had brewed the spurious hooch that had wrecked havoc in the city. The DCB is on the look out for Chauhan, who is now absconding. The police are also hunting for another city-based bootlegger, one Daddu Chauhan, who like Kahar,is accused of sourcing the killer brew from Mehmedabad and later distributing it at liquor stalls in the city.
