Surat builders asked to install CCTV cameras in new projects

The city police have made it mandatory for the builders to install good-quality CCTV cameras in their upcoming residential and commercial projects.

The order comes days after Chief Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a high-tech CCTV surveillance project on public-private partnership model to make the city safer.

Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthaana had earlier issued a notification making security guards and CCTV cameras mandatory for banks, ATMs, jewellery showrooms, shopping malls, cinema halls, multiplexes, hotels and guest houses, petrol pumps, religious places and industrial units.

As per the order, the cameras should function 24X7 and their recordings be preserved for 30 days.

"Through CCTV surveillance, we can prevent as well as detect crime. We have detected many cases in the past with the help of such surveillance," Asthaana said.
