The Surat police recently took stock of the safety and security equipment of the units based in the Hazira industrial belt to check
their preparedness for natural disasters and terror attacks.
At a meeting convened by Range IG Shivanand Jha at the police conference room, he requested the representatives of mega industries to provide the local police stations with details of the security and safety equipment in their possession.
The purpose of the meeting was to find out the type of equipment they possess and their usefulness.
“We have received positive response from the representatives present at the meeting. They are ready to provide us with all the details of their safety and security equipment. This will help us deal with any untoward situation,” said Jha.
He added, “We recently got a special boat from the government, which will help us to patrol the high seas.”
The in-charge Surat police commissioner headed the meeting, which was attended by additional and deputy police commissioners.
According to intelligence reports, states like Gujarat and Maharashtra are on the radar of terrorists. To keep a tab on the suspicious activities taking place in the sea, the fishermen of south Gujarat have been alerted by the local police to keep watch and give information if they find something suspicious.
The local police will patrol the coastal villages. Besides, the villagers have been asked to inform them if they find some unidentified ship or boat.
