  • Surat police are investigating if the four anonymous “outsiders” wanted in connection with the un-detonated bombs found in the diamond city are the same men who figured in Friday’s Delhi encounter. Surat police Commissioner R M S Brar said they are trying to determine if the men had visited Surat.

Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal said that “one of those killed, Atif, had travelled to Ahmedabad on July 24 with 10 people and retuned on July 27 along with 12, including two who arranged for the car found laden with explosives in Surat”.

Two alleged SIMI activists currently in Surat police custody, Tanveer Pathan and Zahir Patel, are accused of helping four unidentified “out- siders” who stayed in the city around the time. The four men are believed to have purchased vehicles and later used them for planting bombs in Surat.

“During interrogation, Pathan told us he arranged for a house for these four men... Whether the IM terrorists killed in Delhi were among these four wanted by us can be established only during investigations,” Brar said.
