Survey finds 6 tobacco-free villages

Researchers from the Indian Institute of Public Health-Gandhinagar (IIPHG) said they have identified four villages in Banaskantha and two in Kheda where various tobacco products are neither sold nor consumed. These villages are Jasara, Gamadi and Bodel in Deesa taluka and Chibadha in Deodhar taluka of Banaskantha, and Gundela and Jamiyatpura villages in Kheda's Balasinor taluka. "No tobacco products were found at two villages in Kheda, while four villages from Banaskantha are free of smokeless tobacco products," said Dr Hardik Solanki, a research associate and community medicine expert from IIPHG who was part of the survey team. IIPHG is working with the government to implement anti-tobacco legislation in various districts.
