And going purely by the state of the game and form, the fast bowler is likeliest of that lot to strike again Saturday. Right from the time he wrapped his fingers around the ball, Anderson matched the British media's hype of being the best new ball bowler in the world. Yes, the pitch did play its role — from Day One, it had evened out, getting a lot quicker and also showing remarkably improved bounce. But Anderson still had to bowl in the right areas, and he did plenty of that.
Following Sehwag's dismissal, Anderson swung the ball in ferociously to Gambhir and Cheteshwar Pujara, giving them little room and conceding little to their 58-run stand. While Pujara looked the better off the two against his pace, umpire Rod Tucker, with a terrible elbow-pad decision, ensured that India's number three wouldn't last long enough to usher in a recovery. With Tendulkar having been cleaned up shortly after and Anderson keeping him quiet, Gambhir gave up — throwing his bat at a widish delivery, edging it to the 'keeper. There was no break in play for an excuse.
