Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle, who rose to fame with her unconventional success story at a UK reality show, has admitted that she was beaten at bullied at school for her learning disabilities.

The 48-year-old singer, who shot to fame on 'Britain's Got Talent' show, has now opened up about her tough upbringing, admitting that teachers weren't trained to cope with her problems, Contactmusic reported.

"I was often left behind at school because of one thing or another. I'm just a wee bit slower at picking things up than other people. So you get left behind in a system that just wants to rush on. And this (singing) feels like a good way of making up for that," said Boyle.

The West Lothian-born singer, whose fans include Hollywood star Demi Moore, has spoken about her helpless situation as a child who did not know how to deal with her problems.

"I don't think the resources were there for me back then at school. Teachers have more specialised training now.

There was discipline for the sake of discipline back then," she said.

"You are looking at someone who would get the belt every day. 'Will you shut up, Susan!' Whack! There's nothing worse than another person having power over you by bullying you and you not knowing how to get rid of that thing," she added.
