Sushma slams MP govt over use of ambulances

FRUSTRATED that ambulances funded by her have failed to benefit people in her constituency, BJP leader Sushma Swaraj Friday came down hard on her party's government in Madhya Pradesh.

She has also taken the ambulances out of the state's control and engaged an NGO — GVK EMRI, which operates an emergency response service in the state — to run them.

Sushma had spent Rs 1.76 crore from her MPLADS fund to buy eight ambulances, one each for eight assembly segments in her Vidisha Lok Sabha seat, three years ago and called the project Sanjeevani.

On Friday, addressing a gathering at Raisen, Swaraj gave a public dressing down to officials who were supposed to run, what she called, "a dream project". Swaraj said she had handed over the ambulances to the state in the belief that people would benefit. But that, despite her repeated reminders, has not happened.

Reacting to Swaraj's comments, Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh of the Congress said she had exposed Shivraj Singh Chouhan government's development claims as hollow.
