Salman Ahmed, the man who was picked up from Bikaner as a suspect in the Samjhauta Express blasts, may be let off. There is no concrete evidence to suggest his involvement in the blasts, senior police officials said.

Salman was caught in Bikaner after the police were alerted that he might have been involved in the conspiracy behind the blasts, since plastic kerosene bottles, similar to the ones used in the blasts, were recovered from his possession.

The Haryana police team then brought Salman to Panipat where is being questioned at an undisclosed location.

“We have not found anything yet to indicate his involvement in the blasts. His interrogation is going on, but we may let him off soon. There are certain aspects that we are verifying,” said Railway Police Force SP Bharti Arora.

Meanwhile, Rana Shaukat Ali and Usman Mohammed — were sent back to Pakistan. Usman has been made a witness in the case. Usman’s statement was recorded under CrPC’s Section 164. He and Rana Shaukat Ali were travelling in the Samjhauta Express when the blasts occurred.
