IPS officer and former Shekhpura SP Anusuiya Ransingh Sahu, whose suspension was recommended on Tuesday by DGP Abhayanand, was instrumental in lodging as many as 150 cases against stone quarrying mafia between March 13 and September 13,and also busting a liquor racket. In most of these cases, chargesheets have already been filed.
It is alleged that Sahu,a native of Orissa and 2006 batch Bihar cadre officer, protected gambling rackets and made money illegally. Her phone was under surveillance from August 28 to September 4. The police headquarters said that she used to engage her bodyguard, now suspended,to collect illegal gratification using her name. The DGP said they have a taped conversation between Sahu and her bodyguard to suggest collection of money using the SPs name.
Interestingly,Sahu has not been informed about the identity of the complainant in the case. This is the first case under the Nitish Kumar government where the DGP has recommended suspension of an IPS officer.
I am ready for an independent inquiry. What is being offered as a strong evidence against me is a one-minute,filtered,taped conversation between me and my bodyguard, said Sahu, adding expected justice from the Chief Minister who also holds the Home portfolio.
Sahu claimed that she had gone to Shekhpura on the DGPs insistence, and did not receive any warning or show-cause notice from the DIG or IG prior to this case. The DGP spoke to me at regular intervals seeking updates and giving instructions on several cases, she said.
My side of the story should be heard by an independent inquiry team, Sahu added. DGP Abhayanand clarified: The IPS officer has given an explanation and I have moved it to the Home department. Now,it is up to them to judge the merit of the allegation. I have gone by facts.
Nitish faces protests,blames RJD
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Thursday faced protests when he went to Begusarai and Khagaria to address public meetings. The protesters showed Nitish slippers, shoes and black flags and some even threw eggs towards his podium at Begusarai. The police had to fire in the air,use teargas and lathi-charge to disperse them. Nitish blamed the demonstrations on the opposition RJD.
