A lot has changed for Pawan Suyal in the last year and a half. Having come to Delhi from Pauri for the Delhi Police Constabulary recruitments, Suyal now finds himself in the mix of Delhi’s Ranji team. A trial with Indian Premier League team Mumbai Indians awaits too. He was supposed to attend it from October 8-10 but a refusal from Delhi coach Vijay Dahiya, who wants to see the left-arm seamer’s mettle in match situations, dashed his hopes, although that is just temporary.
Suyal’s temperament will be tested against Wayamba when the Delhi side plays the Lankans in a warm-up Twenty20 game in Palam on October 8.
“Suyal is a good prospect. We want to test him under match situations. Bowling in a match is a different ballgame altogether than the nets,” Dahiya said.
But the 22-year-old is far from disappointed after being denied this opportunity and is looking forward to soaking in the Ranji atmosphere.
fe has changed’
“I always wanted to be a cricketer, but never thought it would be like this. I’d come here for Delhi Police recruitment and I had no clue about how cricket was being conducted and about the club structure here. Back in Pauri, I only used to play tournaments and never thought life will change so quickly,” he told Sportline after his workout finished at St Stephen’s ground, which is where the training camp for Delhi’s Ranji probables is being held.
On the Mumbai Indians trial, he adds: “My name was forwarded by Shikhar bhai after I bowled to him at nets and I was called for a trial but was asked to stay back. I will think about it later.”
