Swastikas on Holocaust memorial in France

French officials say swastikas have been scrawled on a memorial to Jews deported to concentration camps during the Holocaust.

French officials say swastikas have been scrawled on a memorial to Jews deported to concentration camps during the Holocaust.

French Interior Minister Michele Alliot-Marie has condemned anti-Semitic inscriptions made at the memorial in Drancy, northeast of Paris,a site representing the memory of the deportation and extermination of Frances Jews.

The police headquarters of the Seine-Saint-Denis region say large swastikas were found on Saturday painted on a train car and pillar that are central to the Drancy memorial site.

During the Nazi occupation of France in World War II,tens of thousands of Jews were sent through a transit camp in Drancy before being sent on to Nazi concentration camps.
