A sweeper at SSKM Hospital was Thursday found allegedly putting stitches on an injured person in the emergency department of the hospital.

Jagat,a contractual worker and sweeper working here for the past 10 years, was seen stitching a male patient who was admitted with serious head injury.

Prodip Mitra, director,IPGMER,said they had formed an inquiry committee to probe the incident. He said: “It is not desirable that a sweeper stitches a patient even when doctors are present there. In case of a massive disaster,a sweeper might help a doctor to stitch, but they cannot stitch a patient.”
