A 34-year-old woman and her five-year-old son were confirmed to be infected with the H1N1 virus in Tamil Nadu on Monday. The two have been admitted to the Identified Isolation Facility at Coimbatore.

According to the Health Ministry officials,the woman and her two children had returned from Boston,where her husband works. While,her son confirmed positive for the virus,her daughter,who tested negative,has been kept under observation.

The three reached Chennai on May 28,boarding flight EK-204 transiting Dubai (flight EK 542). They then boarded a Kingfisher flight to Coimbatore (Kingfisher IT-2901) the same day. The child had fever even before leaving the US. “The passengers of the Kingfisher flight and that of EK-542 were being traced and advised to monitor their health status,” Ministry officials added.

With India getting travel related cases,the Health Ministry has written to the Ministry of External Affairs to take action. “We have written to the MEA asking them to approach flu-affected countries for exit screening so that the virus doesn’t enter other countries,” Naresh Dayal,Health Secretary told said.
