Swine flu: Five suspected cases reported

Four more suspected cases of swine flu were reported at the New Civil Hospital in Surat on Monday. One of the patients has been shifted to the Surat Municipal Corporation-run SMIMER Hospital.

Four more suspected cases of swine flu were reported at the New Civil Hospital in Surat on Monday. One of the patients has been shifted to the Surat Municipal Corporation-run SMIMER Hospital. The blood samples of the suspected patients have been sent for laboratory analysis and the results are awaited.

A day before,eight new suspected cases of the virus were reported from NCH.

Sources in the district Health Department said that in the last couple of months,446 suspected swine flu cases have been reported from the government hospitals in Surat,Navsari,Valsad and Tapi districts.

Surat District Health Officer V R Gupta said: “We are holding an awareness programme about the disease with the help of the municipal corporation and the nagarpalikas. We are asking people to visit the government hospital during the primary stage of the disease.”

Meanwhile,one suspected case of swine flu was admitted at the isolated ward in the Sir Sayajirao General Hospital (SSGH) in Vadodara on Monday.

A 30-year-old woman from Bhilpur village in Chhota Udepur was detected with swine flu-like symptoms.

The patient was first admitted at a city-based private hospital with cough and fever. Later,she was referred to the SSG Hospital on Monday afternoon.

The woman has been reported to be a government employee at Chhota Udepur. Though the source of contraction is not known,her reports have been sent for confirmation. At present,no other patients are admitted in the isolated ward at the SSG Hospital.
