Syllabus revised for Class X social science paper

The Central Board of Secondary Education has announced a change in the distribution of marks of topics in the Class X Social Science curriculum.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a change in the distribution of marks of topics in the Class X Social Science curriculum.

The updated syllabus will be effective from the 2010.The eight marks that were earlier allocated to the topic of Disaster Management,through project work and assignments,will now no longer be counted and the marks will be distributed among other branches of the subject — history,geography,political science and economics.

According to the present division,the weightage of these subjects stand at 22,22,18 and 18 respectively.

According to the change,units like India and the Contemporary World II,India — Resources and their Development,Democratic Politics and Understanding Economic Development,have been given 20 marks each.

In History,students will have the option of studying any of the two topics out of Nationalism in Europe and Nationalist Movement in Indo-China,while the third unit on Nationalism in India remains compulsory.

Students can make a choice between Print Culture and Nationalism and History of the Novel and also choose any one of the topics out of Industrialisation 1850s— 1950s,Urbanisation and Urban Lives and Trade and Globalisation.
