Tablets, laptops next yr: CM to students

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today assured the students that laptops and computers will be distributed by his government next year. He also announced that recruitment process for police and PAC will be started soon.

Addressing the meeting, Akhilesh also said that the sugar mill at Mohiuddinpur in Meerut will start crushing from the current season. He distributed financial assistance cheques to beneficiaries of unemployment allowance and Kanya Vidya Dhan scheme, at the gathering.

"We are committed to our assurance of distributing computers and tablets to students. It will be done, hopefully, in 2014," Akhilesh said, adding that even students from rural background will be included in this scheme. "These students are apprehensive about using computers and laptops. Now they will get it and fulfill their dreams," the chief minister said.

The Samajwadi Party had promised to provide tablet to every Class X-pass student and laptop to every Class XII-pass student, in its election manifesto. Akhilesh said his government will soon start the proceedings for recruitment in police and PAC.

The chief minister also announced schemes for over Rs 1,500 crore in Meerut — including setting up three new police statons, separate feeder station, Meerut Inner Ring Road, an ITI in Kithaur in memory of SP's former MLA Manzoor Ahmed, a government degree college in Kharkhauda and a bridge over Kali river.

Akhilesh also announced sops for cane farmers. The sugar factory at Mohiuddinpur, Meerut will be made functional from the current season while the minimum support price for cane farmers will be declared soon. On the other hand, few workers of Rashtriya Lok Dal protested outside the venue demanding enhanced MSP for sugarcane. However, they were rounded off by the police.

At the request of Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shahid Manzoor Akhilesh also assured that an IT Park can be set up provided the land is available.
