Here is a film which every true Puneite will be able to relate to. As their first attempt in the commercial cinema,Swatantra Films has announced their project – Pune TC – a film that explores the desire of outsiders to blend into the fabric of the city. Still in the process of pre-production,which will continue till mid-December,the film will go on floors on January 3 and is set for release by March 2010.

“It’s a light-hearted comedy, with a message on women empowerment,” says Shaikh Riyaz, who interestingly has written the script,is producing the project and also plays the protagonist in the film. 28-year-old Riyaz started working on the story in 2004 when he was pursuing his masters’ degree in Hyderabad. Initially he had plans of writing a book in Telugu, but later on he converted it into a film script format.

The star-cast of the film will see all new faces, who have already started working on their respective roles. If Mriganka, who plays the role of a prostitute, made a visit to the red light areas in the city,to do justice to her role,Dhanshree Heblikar,is interacting with school students these days,as she is playing the role of a 14-year-old school girl.

And Pralhad Shinde is busy learning Telugu,as he plays the role of protagonist’s father. These and several others amongst the star cast, belong to different careers but they have a common interest – cinema.

And the person who will be behind the camera directing these fresh faces is Abhijeet Choudhary. Although this is the first time when Choudhary will don the director’s cap for a full-fledged commercial film,he has directed several plays like Court Martial and Gagan Damma Bajyo to name a few. “Working with the team of debutants will be very challenging as well as exciting for me,” he says. However,Choudhary feels the plus point that the film medium offers in comparison to theatre is that if the director is not happy with his actor’s performance, there is always a possibility of retake.

Where TC stands for ‘take care’ in its title – Pune TC – the multi-lingual film, revolves around the story of a young South-Indian student, who comes to Pune for higher education and career opportunities. The role, which is played by Riyaz is written with the perspective of every one who comes to Pune with different reasons but falls in love with the city. “The story proceeds in a light manner but ends up giving message on women empowerment,” says Riyaz.
