A Residents of Takipur village was awarded death sentence while his brother was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder of three brothers,of the same village. Owing to some land dispute,Ravinder Singh,Balwinder Singh and Kulwant Singh were fired at nearly three years ago. A case under Sections 302,201,148,149 of the IPC and Sections 25/54/59 of the Arms Act was registered against accused Jagjit Singh Jiti,his brother Baljit Singh,mother Ranjit Kaur,wife Baldeep Kaur and Ranjit Singh and Devinder Singh at the Kurali police station. Ropar Additional Sessions Judge Mandeep Pannu held Jagjit Singh and Baljit Singh guilty under Section 302 of the IPC on Wednesday and acquitted the other four accused. The judge pronounced the punishment today and awarded death penalty to Jagjit Singh and life imprisonment to Baljit Singh. She also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Baljit Singh under Section 302 of the IPC. She observed that Jagjit had committed a brutal,heinous and cold blooded crime and the death sentence was justified. Baljit Singh was also sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for one year and slapped with a fine of Rs 500 under Section 25 of the Arms Act and three years rigorous imprisonment and another fine of Rs 500 under Section 27 of the Arms Act. All the sentences against Baljit will run concurrently.
