India’s Got Talent is your second time as a reality show anchor. Are you enjoying this stint?
Yes,MTV Splitsvilla was the first one. But both shows are very different. Splitsvilla was shot under a controlled environment. But this one involves travelling all around India and finding people from various sections of society. I have travelled a lot as a kid because my father was in the army, but this time around it was an eye-opener.

What prompted you to host this show?
I have been a huge fan of Britain’s Got Talent and I have seen the participants turning into superstars after their performances. What I really like about the show is that you don’t need to have a surname like Khan or a millionaire as your godfather. As long as you have talent you are sorted.

What is the challenge involved in anchoring a show like this, because over a period of time you have done a variety of shows?
Firstly, you need to develop a different kind of approach, especially after you have hosted shows on MTV. On MTV,one could walk into a wall and it would be funny. The sillier the situation, the better it worked. But on this show you need to engage your viewer through a narrative. At the same time, you cannot be loud because that will not work in your favour. No wisecracks from me anymore.

What’s your take on reality shows? Do you find them interesting at all?
Frankly,I don’t enjoy them at all. They are all cooked up in the name of reality. But India’s Got Talent is different because the show isn’t scripted nor are the comments of the judges and anchors fabricated.

Given a chance what kind of a reality show would you like to be a part of?
I will be interested if National Geographic comes up with a show where I can scuba dive in the Atlantic or explore the Amazon with a toothpick and toothbrush.

When you started off as a VJ music-based shows used to be big on MTV,but do you think reality shows have taken over of late?
Well,it would be extraordinarily silly if I said no. When MTV started it was just meant to dish out music. But over the years music has become very accessible through the iPod,internet, phones and so on. That’s the reason MTV had to branch out into providing entertainment for the youth.

Most VJs seem to be venturing into mainstream Bollywood. Any such plans for you?
No,I don’t think I am made for the movies. If someone tells me that all I need to do is be myself and not act, then I don’t mind doing a movie.
