Talking Point With Reema Lagoo

You’re back on television after a long break. What attracted you to this role?
I really loved the script of the show. My character has been beautifully etched and even though I may not be on screen all the time,in terms of quality,it’s highly satisfactory. Also,it’s after a very long time that a role requires me to speak such beautiful Hindi. I love that about this role.

The Barjatyas really seem to love you,since you play the mother in their movies and now in this show as well.
I admire the Barjatyas a lot. They’re very simple,down-to-earth and they make their movies based on the values they’ve been brought up with. I share a wonderful equation with them and it’s always a pleasure and an honour to work with them. We have great professional chemistry.

Your most memorable roles on TV were on comedy shows—Shriman Shrimati and Tu Tu Main Main. Will you be making a return to that genre?
Absolutely; I thoroughly enjoy comedy. It’s more challenging,because making people laugh is more difficult than making people cry. My only reservation is that having seen me in those two popular roles,people will offer me something similar again. If I work in a comedy show again,I want it to be very different from whatever I’ve done before.

You’ve also been keeping yourself busy with theatre.
Right now,I’m working on a one-woman play called Tula Mi Mala Mi,which is the Marathi adaptation of a play by Girish Karnad. It’s over an hour long and is very demanding,since the audience’s attention is centered on me completely. But it has been appreciated by people and I’ve even been invited to perform it in Dubai.
