  • From radio jockeying to television, this live show host is busy juggling tasks

From radio to television, is switching medium a difficult task?
I would say it has been hectic. One live show in the morning on radio and another one on television in the evening have been quite a juggle and struggle. I have been with radio for five years and I have gotten into the flow of things. But TV is new to me. It has a different kind of buzz and it involves greater interaction with the audience.

What is the format of Bindass Live?
This show can best be described as a platform for youth to speak out their minds and voice their grievances. It is a daily show and each episode targets issues like homosexuality, smoking, child rights and many other issues. Every day, we also have artistes from various fields coming on the sets, like DJs, tattoo artists and models.

What was it about the show that appealed to you?
The best thing about youth-based talk shows is that the younger crowd is never diplomatic and very straight forward. They have definite opinions. It is a lot of fun interacting with them because even I get a chance to be myself.

How’s the experience of hosting a live show on television?
Live shows are always more difficult, but being an RJ helped me. There are no retakes here, hence you have to do your homework well and have a good presence of mind. If you are going to attempt live television, make sure you are at ease with the idea first.

What according to you are the essentials of being a good host?
I am pretty new to this medium and so talking about the essentials would be tough. But I guess being confident and not feeling distressed helps one in the long run.

Who are you favourite anchors on television?
Internationally, I have always admired Jay Leno in The Tonight Show. I think anyone who is aspiring to become a host has a lot to learn from him. Closer home, I admire Vir Sanghvi. He is spontaneous and has a brilliant screen presence.

    What’s next on the agenda?
Becoming an actor is definitely on the cards. But right now I am concentrating on radio and TV. Two more production houses have already offered me a couple of assignments on TV, but I am too tied up to commit. I want to grow in my profession at the moment and eventually make it to Bollywood.

(Bindass Live airs on Bindass TV every Monday to Thursday, 7.30pm)
