Yesteryear’s Draupadi is still interested in strong charactersAfter your comeback on television you have played strong women. Was this a conscious effort?
When I listen to a narration of the script, I first try and look for logic in the role. And when I agree to do a role, I make sure I justify the character. The reason I decided to portray strong women is that I knew I wasn’t meant to do negative shades. I look too genuine for it. And they also kind of summed up my personality.
Is your role in the show Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Ki Jo similar to roles you have portrayed earlier?
I play the role of Sumitra— Loha Singh’s wife. She is a quiet, motherly, cultured and religious woman who takes care of the family and is petrified of her husband. It is another strong character I portray in terms of supporting my family. What I like about it is that it’s etched out perfectly from start to end. There are no loopholes.
How was the experience of working on this show?
I’m old school; I like the fact that the director of the show also belongs to that era. He is a no-nonsense person who gets his work done on time. It is a disciplined unit and it is a pleasure working with such a crew.

I believe that television has a certain responsibility and duty to depict the reality of India. And this is one section which needs maximum attention. And the filmmakers are doing a brilliant job of portraying it.
