Tara Muzik too goes off air

Efforts on to revive channel,CM relief yet to reach.

Bengali music channel Tara Muzik went off air this morning in the face of Saradha Group winding up its various media ventures due to mounting operational costs.

Sources in the channel said they were trying to revive the channel but the relief announced by the Chief Minister was caught in some technicalities. “Our uplinking provider has refused to continue with airing the channel owing to the huge outstanding of over Rs one crore. The Chief Minister had announced a relief but there are some legal issues due to which we are yet to get the relief money,” said Indrajit Ray,general manager,Tara Muzik.

Theatre personality Arpita Ghosh, who is also a former employee of Saradha Group and was the first one to put in an FIR against company CMD Sudipta Sen,said it was a sorry state of affairs at the channel. “As far as I know the number of people who have lost employment is not less than 200. It is very sad to see that a channel, from where many reputed artistes started their careers,is struggling the way it is. Efforts are on to keep it on air.”

TMC leader and industry and commerce minister Partha Chatterjee said he was aware of the closure and that the government was looking into ways of keeping the channel afloat. “I know there are legal hassles,so we are looking into possibilities for the government or any of its department to take up the management of the channel.”

Employees, however, are not hopeful. “All of us are looking for jobs. We all know we are fighting a lost battle,” said an employee.

Saradha Group had acquired as many as 18 media organisations since the beginning of 2010. All of them have closed now.
