Task force to trace women who fled Mankhurd shelter home

Maharashtra government has decided to set up a task force comprising two officials each from police and women and child welfare departments to trace women who escaped from a state-run shelter home in Mankhurd.

State Women and Child Welfare Minister Varsha Gaikwad said the force will be entrusted with the job of tracing the women and ensuring they are sent back home.

She has convened a meeting with the home department Friday and will send officials to meet Bangladeshi authorities in Delhi to discuss the process of sending the women back . The process of "transfer permit" for the women will be discussed.

High Court had earlier appointed a committee to probe allegations of harassment at the shelter after 36 inmates escaped on October 27.
